Zhangjiajie National Forest Park + Grand Canyon Glass Bridge + Tianmen Mountain are three separate scenic areas, each at some distance from the others. About This Route
Do I need to do a lot of climbing?
No heavy climbing required. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park includes the Bailong Elevator up + Tianzi Mountain Cable Car down — elevator up, cable car down, no climbing. Tianmen Mountain includes cable car + escalator + shoe covers. What requires some stamina is the Glass Skywalk and the flat paths on Tianzi Mountain summit, but neither is long. Seniors and children can manage.
Is Fenghuang Ancient Town worth visiting?
Absolutely. Fenghuang Ancient Town's night view is one of the highlights of any Hunan route — stilt houses along the Tuo River reflecting lights, Hong Bridge, Wanming Pagoda, Shawan stilt house cluster. Staying overnight is far better than a day trip. Stroll the flagstone streets by day, enjoy the night views after dark — a relaxed pace.
Can I fly directly back from Fenghuang?
Yes. Tongren Fenghuang Airport near Fenghuang has direct flights to select cities. If you'd rather not spend 6 hours driving back to Changsha on Day 5, you can fly from Tongren Airport — your travel concierge will help check flights and rebook. However, Tongren Airport has limited flights and may not have a suitable one every day.
Best season? Can I visit in winter?
Best Apr–Oct. In winter, Tianmen Cave may close due to ice and the Glass Skywalk may also close due to freezing. Jul–Aug is peak season with the most crowds. May–Jun and Sep–Oct have fewer people and beautiful scenery — highly recommended. The Tianmen Mountain cable car operates year-round but may suspend during extreme weather.
Are meals included? How do we handle food?
Breakfast included, lunch and dinner are not. Changsha cuisine is a highlight — stinky tofu, Chayan Yuese milk tea, Hunan dishes, spicy crayfish. Your driver-guide recommends local eateries where locals actually eat, not kickback restaurants. On average, SGD 10–20/day gets you excellent meals.
