Shandong's terrain is forgiving — the coast is flat plains, Mount Tai is the only mountain to climb. 1.5–3 hours between cities, all expressway. Day 1–3: relaxed Qingdao & Weihai beach days. Day 4: transition. Day 5: Mount Tai push. Day 6–7: cultural wind-down. The rhythm is loose-tight-loose, like the exposition-development-recap of a musical piece.
Is one day enough for Mount Tai? What about elderly travelers?
Yes. The Zhongtianmen cable car reaches Nantianmen in 15 minutes — the grueling Eighteen Bends are bypassed. Nantianmen to Yuhuangding is a gentle ~40-minute walk. Elderly can cable-car both ways and skip the summit — sipping tea at Tianjie watching the sea of clouds also counts as experiencing Mount Tai. Your travel consultant creates a tailored plan for each person's fitness level.
Is Qufu's Confucius Temple worth visiting?
Yes — but not for everyone. If you're interested in Confucian culture, the Three Sites are a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the dragon pillars in Dacheng Hall are one of a kind in all of China. If you're a pure-play family with young kids who have zero interest in history and culture — consider skipping Qufu. Your travel consultant can adjust the itinerary for you.
Is the Qingdao Beer Museum a must?
Not mandatory, but strongly recommended. It's the only beer museum in China, housed in a century-old brewery. Should I hike Mount Tai or take the cable car?
Cable car is available from Zhongtianmen and up — elderly or those with limited stamina are advised to take the cable car up and walk down (or cable car both ways). Your travel consultant gives advice based on each person's fitness level, without pressuring anyone to reach the summit. Our goal is for everyone to experience Mount Tai at their own pace, not a race to the top.
Can I try unfiltered draft beer at the Qingdao Beer Museum?
Yes. The museum ticket includes two glasses of beer — one unfiltered draft (yuanjiang, shelf life only 24 hours) and one regular draft. Non-drinkers get the alcohol-free malt version. Your travel consultant confirms everyone's preferences in advance.
Which is better — Weihai or Qingdao?

Is it too hot in summer?
Shandong's coast (Qingdao, Weihai) sits at 25–30°C in summer with a sea breeze — much more comfortable than inland. Mount Tai's summit is about 10°C cooler than the base. Jinan is warmer inland but naturally cool by the springs — stand by Baotu Spring for a moment and the heat fades. Overall, much more pleasant than eastern China.
Do overseas Chinese need extra paperwork for Shandong?
No. Many passport holders enjoy 15–30 day visa-free entry to China. Shandong's coastal cities have plenty of hotels with foreign-guest hosting qualifications — we verify in advance.
