If weather or closure prevents passage — we reroute via Nalati→Yining→Sayram Lake back to Urumqi. Same number of days, no downgrade in experience. Best season? When is it most beautiful?
June–September. The Duku Highway opens early June and closes end of September. Lavender peaks mid-June to early July. July–August: greenest grasslands, bluest Sayram Lake. Mid-to-late September: grasslands turn golden with autumn colors — a different kind of beauty. May and October? Possible, but Duku Highway closed and grasslands withered — the experience is diminished.
